Rethinking the Ballot Act
The 150th anniversary of the Secret Ballot Act highlights its obsolescence in a world overwhelmed by fake and misleading media, which significantly influences public decisions.
Typeface as Commentary
In response to these challenges, I aimed to create a complete lower-case typeface that addresses contemporary issues surrounding voting and the media, applicable to various design projects like envelopes, posters, and motion graphics.
Designing Media Sans
I developed "Media Sans," featuring arrow-like letters that symbolise the misleading direction of media influence. The typeface includes a specimen for graphic designers and is accompanied by two interconnected posters, illustrating how media can transform individuals into robotic consumers of information. The design employs three contrasting colours, with electric purple signifying mystery and the unattainable, echoing the now-transparent nature of The Ballot Act.
Prompting Public Reflection
This project seeks to spark discussion on the media's impact on voting behaviour, using Media Sans as a critical tool for effective communication.
